John Mueller

Founder, Golfer, Runner, Professor, Entrepreneurship.

John M. Mueller is an assistant professor at Western Michigan University (WMU) in Kalamazoo where he teaches entrepreneurship. Prior to working on his PhD in Entrepreneurship at the University of Louisville, he started and ran several businesses in the software industry, including GolfSolutions.com. Currently he is working on building products for runners (Pick'n Run) with his son, Martin. He is actively involved in the local startup community as a leader or as a participant (Pitch Zoo, Startup Grind, Startup Digest, Startup Genomone, Startup Zoo, Starting Gate, Crowdfunding Professional Association, and more). His work experiences have allowed him to live and work in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Mike Sinclair

Physics and mathematics teacher at Kalamazoo Area Math & Science Center

Mike Sinclair is a physics and mathematics teacher at the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics & Science Center, Michigan's first magnet high school program. He is a former infantry officer in the U.S. Army and served as a Nuclear Surety Officer in West Germany at the height of the Cold War.

He has worked at the National Solar Observatory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, and at the University of Notre Dame and Kalamazoo College. He also worked on the Systemic Initiative in Montana Mathematics & Science project and participated in the National Endowment for the Humanities Great Theorems in Mathematics program at Ohio State.

Finally, Sinclair is a life-long fan of the Detroit Tigers, founder and coach of the KAMSC Cricket Team, and the proud owner of an Easton carbon nanotechnology baseball bat or, as it's better known by his students, the "nurture stick".

Executive Director of Community Relations at Kalamazoo Promise

Von Washington Jr. certainly understands the value of an education. Growing up the son of a college professor and professional actress, Von has been exposed to his parents’ love for and expertise in written and verbal communications for as long as he can remember. As executive director of community relations for The Kalamazoo Promise, Von is tasked with being the spokesperson for The Kalamazoo Promise, which includes responsibilities to key community stakeholders, media relations, and promoting a system of communication and information around a common vision of becoming an education community.

Wayne Cavanaugh

Former President of United Kennel Club

Wayne R. Cavanaugh is a third-generation dog fancier. He has judged dog events in America, Ireland and Mexico. He has co-hosted the Animal Planet National Dog Championship television series and is the co-host of Crufts, the world’s largest dog show, for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Wayne has appeared on The Today Show, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, CNN, Fox News, FX’s Pet Department, Fox Pet News, and Discovery’s Petsburg to discuss dog related topics.

Wayne has lectured at most of America’s veterinary schools, and has served on various canine issue committees with the American Veterinary Medical Association, the National Pet Council and the California American Veterinary Medical Association. He served as a Charter Member of the Board of Directors of the Canine Health Foundation.
